San Jose, CA-based bassist Ken Okada began arranging big band charts during his college years in the ’90s in Japan and has been composing music ever since. His work is heavily influenced by Japanese/American jazz fusion, video game music, and modern/contemporary big band sounds.
In 2022, Ken met and jammed with then-13-year-old drumming prodigy Yoyoka. He was instantly captivated by her mature, solid groove and playful style. Without hesitation, he brought in Grammy Award-winning tenor saxophonist Ben Torres and DownBeat Magazine’s Rising Star guitarist Hristo Vitchev for a studio recording session. That single-day session resulted in the band’s debut album Square One, which paved the way for several live gigs, including sold-out performances at San Jose Jazz Break Room in November 2023 and Alvas Showroom in August 2024. The band’s second album Young and Brave, also featuring four-times Grammy Award-nominated pianist Murray Low, has just been released.
With a dynamic lineup and a shared passion for pushing musical boundaries, the band continues to captivate audiences and carve out their unique space in the jazz fusion world.

Why not music inspired by art while surrounded by art? In this new series, “In the Tune of Art,” we select music that matches the theme and artwork of the current exhibition and invite you to enjoy the melody in that environment. Musicians will also give special perform improvised performances inspired by the art.
For the third session, we will be presenting a classic guitar to accompany the design exhibition “PATH TO THE PERFECT CUP: Coffee Culture in Japan“. LA-based musician Taro Wayama will perform classical guitar in a relaxed atmosphere, including original pieces and classical music. We will also provide samples of freshly brewed coffee to attendees.
Immerse yourself in the soothing sounds of a room filled with the aroma of coffee!

Taro Wayama
Taro Wayama is a Japanese born guitarist/composer. He is a winner of numerous competitions such as 1st place in the 2003 Aron Green/American String Teachers Association Guitar Competition and 2nd place in the Thailand International Guitar Competition. As a composer he received “Best Original Score” at the Los Angeles Movie Awards for an independent film, “Anne Jennings”. Taro is an active soloist and a chamber musician. He has performed in Japan, Mexico, Thailand, Canada, China, Belgium and the US. He frequently collaborates with violin, clarinet, flute, voice and dancer performing music from Renaissance through 21st Century and Folk/World music. Taro holds Masters and Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California where he studied with Pepe Romero, William Kannengiser, James Smith, Brian Head and Scott Tennant. He has performed in number masterclasses by great guitarists such as Pepe Romero, David Leisner, Scott Tennant, Benjamin Verdery, Dusan Bogdanvic, Fabio Zanon, and William Kanengiser. https://www.instagram.com/tarowayama/

今年で20回目を迎える 「Tasveer Film Festival & Market」(タスビアー・フィルム・フェスティバル・アンド・マーケット)が、
10月8日から12日まで、シアトル・ワシントンで開催されます。
会場はメイン会場となる Tasveer Film Center (タスビアー・フィルム・センター)で上映されます。
この映画祭は、世界で唯一の アカデミー賞®公認・南アジア映画祭 としても注目を集めています。
さて、その中から注目作品をご紹介しましょう。
①映画について
上映作品は 「Shambhala Story」 (シャンバラ・ ストーリー)。
インド・ダージリンからやってきた敬虔なチベット僧侶が、日本で修行中に老人と孫娘と出会い、交流を深める物語です。孤独な彼女を支えるうちに、僧侶の心には戒律を揺るがす禁断の感情が芽生えていきます。
主演は、金馬奨で主演・助演両方の受賞歴を持つ実力派俳優 モー・ズーイー。そして、Fantastic Fest(ファンタスティック・フェスト)で主演女優賞を受賞し、国内外で活躍を続ける 武田梨奈(たけだ・りな) さん。
